Not the ending I wanted to my first race in my MX5. I was very lucky just to end up with a broken right arm, considering how bad the crash was it could have been alot worse.

  • And what is the wisdom of not using the lightweight factory hardtop? Stupid, stupid, stupid. You are one lucky SOB.

  • @keborylam

The factory hard top will not fit over the full roll cage and so cannot be used.

  • @zed180 I'm not sure about your roll cage requirements but in the US we race specmiatas with the hardtop and a roll cage. I had to lower my seat but it beats having my arms flainiling every which way as your video shows. You were lucky not to lose your arm. At least use arm restrains.

  • @keborylam

The Safety Devices roll cage is higher so a hardtop cannot be fitted, it gives extra clearance above the drivers head so you can use the standard seat mountings, my helmet did not make contact with the roll cage and was not damaged. Unfortunately it's not until you have or see an accident like this that you do things to make it safer, arm restraints are compulsory for next season so it should protect drivers arms in the future especially when their unconscious.

  • glad ur okay...did u purposely put ur arm out wen u rolled it or was that from being thrown around if somehow u wud have kept ur arm inside the cage u wud prob not even break ur arm

  • @xxnissansilviaxx - I was unconcious so could not control my arm and your right, if I could of kept my arm in the car it would not have been broken. Thanks

  • Whole car rests on his right arm, not surprised it broke lol

  • Absolutely wild man...amazing how much of a rag doll we become in that kind of situation.... unconscious or not. Watching that car come down on your arm right at the roll bar pivot point.... made me cringe. Glad it was just your arm though! If it's what you enjoy though.... Keep racing! Do what you love. I hope next time the guy in front of you learns how to drive.

  • whats with some of these comment! what do you think he was doing? waving to his friends? it is called getting knocked unconscious. arm restraints are a good idea in a open car.... and my word, did you see how far he came out of his seat. scary stuff. glad you are ok, crazy crash.

  • shit bricks!

  • That looked knarley, glad your OK!!!

  • shame about the car

  • ive smashed my hand in a door which hurt like hell but never my whole arm with the weight of a miata on it im bettin that was a wonderful feeling but atleast your still alive

  • That sucked, looks like you could have avoided it too.

  • @JD0x0 Your argument is like that of people who don't wear seatbelts because they say they'd rather be thrown out of car and not crashed in it - they've heard a story like that once and by golly, it makes sense to them. Out of several dozens of videos I watched not once was the hardtop detached. Good enough odds for me to race with a hardtop and suggest that others do the same. Now go find somebody else to pester. Please.

  • @keborylam Spec miata rolled at 110mph. Top tore off like tissue paper on the first roll. Rolled 3 more times. Luckily the driver was fine.
