Canine Companions is now the largest assistance dog organization in the world, and will continue to be the leader in providing exceptional dogs for exceptional people for generations to come. It was started in 1975 in Santa Rosa California. In 1995 they reached their 1000th graduate team placement mark. The dogs are matched with qualified people at the age of two. They use only Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers and crosses of the two breeds. People request dogs, the application process is about 3-6 months. The dogs are free of charge to qualified people. Dogs are trained to learn over 50 commands. They are trained in 4 categories, Service, Skilled Companion, Hearing dogs, and Facility dogs. I will be doing their live auction at the Hearts and Hero's fundraiser at the New York Stock exchange on Nov. 17, 2011...lots of great auction items including the sold out show "Jingle Ball with Lady Gaga". The mom has an uncanny sense of of knowing when my wife is going to get worse and will get out a doll she has had since a pup and walk around all day whining and guarding it and trying to put it up on my wifes bed.

I always get a couple days warning so I know to keep a closer eye on her and she's gotten a couple extra years by catching situations early says her Doc...
