How does the size of the flow affect the formation of eddy currents? Does it need to be a minimum size before it can manipulate Gold, or will dust particles be accumulated by a very small stream? Do you only deal with placer deposits or do you also know about where and how ore veins form? What are the indicators and how deep do they tend to be?

@Asylumescapee69 hi ...thanks for comment...i work placer but keep my eyes open for quartz veins. where i shot vid was on a sharp bend in the river...it was at low water not much gold moving around but at high water that area is a raging torrent moving all kinds of sediment...but the heavies do get aligned,...another trick is ...get a portable black light go out at night ...the black light will show tungston deposits..gold will be near...mickeyminer

the metal detector is a whites treasuremaster amphibian ...old school...it might be a BFO type has a real short handle and is(was) submersible with waterproof earphones a divers detector ...

@GreywolfMiner ....the first time i tried this mapping technique was up in the caribou ..on lowee creek at wells i was a greenhorn ...was mapping out a bar with my hi tech radio shack md..a local prospector came by and basically laughed at my effort...he came by a few hours later saw my hand drawn map with me connecting the dots to show paystreaks...he wasn't laughing when he told me that he had learned something...its a poor workman who blames his tools...found fine gold only but map helped

Very cool neat idea I have to say. I will probably use this when I go up to Cache Creek, Colorado which I do live in Colorado. But this could also be used for detecting quartz veins that have gold in them.

What detector was that you was using? I don't think I know that one.

I've done the same making with little flags like the phone people use.

verry smart ..great idea..iam impressed with this ...iam tottaly aware of pay streaks...and usually follow them with a gold pan..never thought of mapping them out using a metal detector...now i have a new use for my gold master 2....thanks for sharing this.....
