Real science goes against the concept of authoritarian control.
Facts are inconvenient, so the rulers will do anything to stop it.
Whether it be religion, corporate greed, or government. Facts are not useful for controlling the masses, so they keep the people as dumb as possible and tries to discredit science as much as possible.
Whenever science comes under attack by non-scientists, it is a clue telling us that someone is at the top attempting to control the masses.

nickcore2002 is half-right. The environmental movement has been massively infiltrated by charlatans such as Prince Philip, Maurice Strong, and Al Gore. Yet the core of the movement is very worthy and promotes greatly reducing pollution, taking care of forests, protecting biodiversity... no sensible person, I think, can argue with those objectives.
