TRANSVAGINAL ASPIRATION (TVA) OF FOLLICLES FOR OOCYTE (EGG) RECOVERY

In this video, Dr. Jay S. Nemiro is aspirating ovarian follicles under ultrasound guidance, to remove eggs for in-vitro fertilization (IVF). In preparation of IVF, the woman is given injectable fertility medication to produce a lot of eggs or ovarian follicles. When the follicles or eggs "are ready" they are recovered vaginally with ultrasound guidance. This is a simple procedure that is done in the office and generally takes about 5 minutes, Once all the follicles are aspirated and the eggs are recovered, they will undergo fertilization by ICSI in the IVF laboratory. I've been through this procedure yesterday and never imagined it would be so sore afterwards
