Prince Souphanouvong Tribute

Souphanouvong, the "Red Prince'' of Laos who fought with Vietnamese and Lao guerrillas against the United States in Indochina and later became his country's president, died Monday, Laotian Radio reported. He was 86.

Souphanouvong became president after the communist victory in Indochina in 1975 and held the post until 1986 when he stepped down on health grounds.

Souphanouvong was known as the "Red Prince'' after leading the communist Pathet Lao for more than two decades of guerrilla warfare against the rightist government of his half-brother, Prince Souvanna Phouma.

The struggle between the two princes for control of the landlocked kingdom dominated the history of Laos from its independence from France in 1953 to the communist victory in December 1975.

  • @AgentShadow1017 That's my half Uncle the other half was a Royal socialist... R.i.p see U all in Nirvanna...

  • I hope one day Lao people will open up their eyes and realize that the path Souphanouvong took them was created by lies and deceptions. He wasnt freeing the people of Laos but instead imprisoned them. Under his control the Lao people were oppressed and suffered. Laos is the least develope country in all of Asia, he failed as a leader. He was not a hero but instead a traitor to is country and King. For those who don't know Laos gain their independance from France in 1954 under King Vatthana.

  • proud to have so many lao comrades

  • Please use Singapore's prosperity as a example of colonizing by the british after they developed and left. If Laos had sided with the US and not become communist, Laos would have been very prosperous today unlike the current Laos. Another example is Taiwan and South Korea, both are ally of the USA and are very prosperous and technologically advance. Laos = shit hole. As for you supporter of this shit hole, I agree that you should continue to support it so that you'll fall behind while we advance

  • Glory to Prince Souphanouvong! :) Long live the Lao people's revolution!

Thank you for posting these nice videos about Laos, comrade sengoku17!

  • my people have suffred from this man :(

  • Communist brother! Vietnam praises you!

  • @Khonlao2010, you are not so correct .. It's good, that they save our country, I must say, but in other side, if you are not so stupide.. this is not the real system communist party, this is the fake to make the money system for themself, and they are get rich and rich but most of Lao people still be the most of the poor people in the hold world. for 45 years.. the Japanese they need only some years to developed their coutry after the second world war but how about Laos.. this is almost 45 years

  • And Khonlao2010, I just want to add more of my idea. the newspaper in Vientiane never never have the new thing to update for Lao people in the country, only the news from the silly system, and all the photos from the party. this is I also don't understand, and it's gvery boring when I start to read the first page of the newspaper and since 20 years.. all is the same, nothing developed.. please accepted. If Lao people are strong enough and not so stupide, they will stand up one days and change
