@tizzod2 Also, a lot of people are under the impression that down tuning makes something heavier. Too many metal bands use down tuning as a crutch to sound heavier. You can be extremely heavy in standard E tuning (Opeth). Heck, go down to Eb (Slayer) or D (CoB). But once you go past C and get into 7 string (or even lower!) territory things tend to get muddy and lose the bite that higher tunings have.

@tizzod2 You haven't listened to much Opeth, have you? With that mentality you've probably only listened to Heritage or Damnation. Those are very mellow albums. You can't listen to My Arms, Your Hearse or Deliverance and tell me they aren't heavier than Katatonia. Don't get me wrong, I like Katatonia, but they aren't really that heavy.
