@sk8terb0y1132
The idea of the drop kick is two fold. 1) the ball tends to be much more direct and gets downfield much quicker than most punts. This allows for a tactical advantage by not letting the other team get all 11 players behind before it hits the ground from a punt. 2) Because the flight of the ball from a drop kick tends to be much lower and flatter, it can be a useful skill set when playing into the wind. Balls that tend to have a higher trajectory get caught in the wind easier.

Good vid. I play at a pretty high level but I always found it hard for the drop volley. Instead I use a side volley. It goes just as straight, and I can direct. Also I feel that when I am trying to get the ball out faster to the wings or over the back lines head to my forwards.

yeah, I'm a big fan of the side volley, as long as it can be hit consistently. I was never really able to hit it consistently for distance, so I stuck with the drop kick, but I do like the side volley technique.
