www.kiteanchor.com lay out lines perpendicular to the wind direction, attach chicken loop to the kite anchor leash, inflate kite and place on beach on the upwind side of the lines 1/2 way down the lines, attach kite lines to kite, flip kite over and walk out so the leading edge is into the wind, stand kite up on its wind tip so the kite lines are tight and being held by the kite anchor, walk to anchor, attach safety leash to control bar, attach chicken loop to harness hook, detach kite anchor leash and launch the kite -- repeat the process in reverse to land the kite.

  • Many kiters use kiteanchor to launch and secure their kites in shallow water -- just add a float to the line so you can find the anchor when a kite is not attached to it. In the Florida Keys during strong wind, we use a kiteanchor to hold the boat and simultaneously launch and land kites.

  • will this work with Ocean Rodeo Rise kites. What about high winds? Looks to be safe....is the kite fully depowered in this position, preventing it from taking off?

  • If your kite will "park" on its wing tip without falling over then the kiteanchor will work great. I tested the anchor in 40+mph winds with a 12m kite -- the anchor held firm even as the kite shot up into the air. I also use the kiteanchor in the Florida Keys to water launch and land kites and to hold the boat instead of a typical boat anchor.

  • I got one for my slingshot 13m Key. Works like a charm - very stable. I bury mine in the sandy a bit, so it's not a hazard to my toes.

  • I just bought the anchor and it works great. I tested it with the Ocean Rodeo One and an Ocean Rodeo Rise kite both were very stable in this position. However, I noticed you do need some power in the kites so I don't fully depower the kites, just a bit. I also tested it with a C-kite, but that didn't work well.

  • kitebdr,

We use this technique in the winter with ice screws. Unfortunately, our beaches are not very wide. I think you are saying this works submerged to hold boats and kites too?

  • Thanks ! Great site -- keep up the good work.

  • Very nice self launch and land technique......the kiteanchor is the bomb! Easy to take down to the beach and ghost launch with.....when your buddies are to lame to ride! Nice product.
