On finding out that he is known as 'the Himmler of the lower 5th' , Crocker Harris (Sir Michael Redgrave) is shattered, but very little comes through his iron control. A beautiful piece of Controlled acting.
I viewed Ian Holm's entire portrayal of Andrew Crocker-Harris (1985) and excerpts from Albert Finney (1994) in that role. Fine work.
Seeing the same character now through the art of a third actor, Michael Redgrave, (1951), my eye assumes a more empathetic perspective. I am less familiar with Redgrave but more familiar with his character and his era.
Given my life experience, Redgrave's performance rings true and alive.
Bravo, Terence Rattigan, 37 years old when his play was published.
I bought this video several years ago on a recommendation from my bro. I was a fan of Redgrave and this is his defining role, in my opinion.
