Typical for a future-seeing story. You see this type of plot in any story involving prophecy and/or time-travel. Whenever someone finds out something about the future that they don't like, they try to prevent it, and they almost always end up ensuring it. The same thing applies to both the good guys and the bad guys. It makes you wonder if its better not to know what happens next.
