I find it fascinating that because this is an American documentary aimed at an American audience, it comes natural to both support the recruitment of kids to become legal murderers (hence soldiers) and to villainize the Arabs when it doesn't take propaganda to know that Israel is a brute military force. This is truly a cultural difference between USA and the more liberal Europe.
Once again, this seems just like what Hideo Kojima was saying about desensitizing war through video games. That's why I respect the way he gives enemy soldiers personality, and asks "what makes someone a bad guy?"
He makes a good point but you also have to understand that Japan has no "current enemy combatant" (note: current) and a very pacifist mentality. Many other nations don't share the same mentality and hence the hostility and the unwillingness to sympathize or humanize enemy forces. US has Muslim extremist terrorist, they are considered evil pure and inhumane. Many Arab nations have deep hostility towards the state of Israel. The list goes on. I really think it depends on the nations politics.
