New York is going to generate an EXTRA $400-$500 MILLION in revenue by pimping cigarette smokers...GOOD JOB N.Y.C.!!!! Maybe every state should consider a similar move to help fund a variety of important programs.

  • I think that's not right. The government is taking advantage on people. I agree the cigarette is bad, but in new york the worst is air pollution caused from cars, manufacturing waste, etc etc. They should increase gas prise to $35 per gallon.

People need to think, is it right or not? NOT if you like it or NOT.

  • @COLDCHISELED That's funny, but even paying 6 or 7 dollars for those cancer sticks is crazy. The tobacco industry is a beast. Glad I don't smoke and never wanted to. SMH

  • @seand67 The only thing that taxing in NYC has done is it created an underground market for cigarettes .You can buy bootleg cigarettes for $6-$7 a pack without the state tax seal and 'looseys' for 50 cents each .Former Gov.Patterson tried to pass a sugar tax on soda 1 cents per once.

  • @Paragon9000 I knew that they would still sell. New York shouldn't have any more financial woes when the extra half billion fome the cancer sticks starts to pad the financial coffers. Hell, raise the price to 25.00 across the entire USA. We'd have money for healthcare, education, infrastructure, and more programs that are currently being slashed. Glad you stopped smoking...That nicotine is one hell of a drug!!

  • @CharliGirl868 LOL..I know, but it would be interesting to see people from the North bum rush the South for cheap cancer sticks...SMH

  • @seand67 Its a nice though Sean, but its a real hard sell in southern states, esp those who grow tobacco. They have tried for years in MS to get legislation passed to hike up tax on cigarettes and its been shot down every time. But they are quick to cut funds to Medicaid and education though. They don't call it Big Tobacco for nothing down here.
