I agree with this on many levels. myself, being born in the 80s in bklyn. People from this borough have pride like they would for their own family.these days I walk around ny and I relize its not my ny anymore. not the one I once loved. So much has changed. Its is watered down. If you dont understand. Its ok. Those days r gone and the home we once loved is no longer there to see.
Interesting except for the whole "zip code" and the "I happen to be from Brooklyn and you are not" part. Some of the most renowned artists and exemplar minds come from all sorts of smaller towns in the US and out of it. And no, I don't come from a small little town at all.
I agree that "hipsters" shouldn't pretend to be of the Brooklyn persona, but it doesn't mean that they aren't real artists. Just because someone doesn't suffer for their art doesn't mean that they can't have an important message to convey.

Isn't the whole "I'm superior because I was born in such-and-such a zip code" every bit as arrogant as someone who lives off their parents' dime?
Get over yourself, you grew up in Brooklyn, not Liberia. Get out of yourself, go volunteer for someone less fortunate.

Love it, and precisely why you'll never find me living in Brooklyn.
