December '85, 475m heat of the Trainer's Championship. The local champion, numerous open race winner Ballintubber One, gets a start and a beating by the best racing greyhound of all time, past and present - Ballyregan Bob.
@foriamonlyahorse2 not everyone is a cunt though, i'm pretty sure that there are still plenty of good owners out there and possibly trainers too, the problem is like everything it's the small few of scumbags make it bad for the good ones around
I still love to watch these re-runs of these great dogs however I have fallen out of love for a sport that STILL treats its heroes, especially the lesser lights, appallingly.
They are the kindest natured animals yet there are still plenty of appalling owners/trainers who shouldn't be anywhere near these fine beasts irrespective of what DEFRA etc say!.
i was actually there that night,it was jam packedmwas truly a great race, both were great dogs, especially bob, stow was a great place to race and very hard to pick winners but i never could win at my home track oxford
Bob was amazing, the more he was asked to do, the more he did. I would rather have had a pup sired by Sandman however, He stood at stud in Ireland at John Fitzpatricks kennel and during that time, about 10 years he sired a pup to win every open classic race in Ireland and the UK. If artificial insemination was allowed in greyhound racing and his sperm was available, Fitzpatrick would be a multi-millionaire by now.
ballyregan bob and scurlogue champ 2 superstars of greyhound racing i saw both of them race 2 compleatly different styles of racing bob with his early pace and scurlogue coming from a different planet to win lets hope another one like them comes along because when it does it is great for the sport of greyhound racing.

Magnificent...super memories. The way Ballyregan stretches up the home straight epitomises his sheer class.
Happy, happy days from the greatest track of all (IMO).
