@chalklounge I was never a big Carson fan (or a fan of ANY talk shows), but I'm not a fan of this "my generation" trendiness, either. Nobody should care what "my generation" says you're supposed to like or not like. As far as this clip is concerned, it was produced back before things like MTV video games and cyber-tech destroyed everyone's attention span, and creeps like Howard Stern made it fashionable to be rude and crude. Then again, Carson also had 90-minutes to fill.
The Whole Damn Era was Better!...THIS show made everyone FEEL like they were PART of it...not like today in which ALL the shows scream, 'Look at us!..and Admire us!..We're SO, special!!'.... Yeah,...right.

This was taped in the same studio that Late Night with David Letterman used from 1982-93. At this time Johnny was 45 and Doc was 41.

I'm 34 and to me, this is dreadfully boring. It just appeals to a different generation.

I love this "laidback" feeling that Johnny brought to the Tonight Show.
Today television is so hysterical. Jay Leno screams and tries to fill every second with a sentence.
Johnny! We all miss you dearly...
