The original intro to the UK series of Frank Muir's What-a-Mess

I can't seem to find much... if any real interest in this series that was made for ITV, let alone Smallfilm's series by Oliver Postgate which has been 'lost' since the 1980s...

This series was so much better than what the Americans did to Frank Muir's stories - terrible!

Sorry about the quality, this material was sourced from an old overused VHS tape donated to us by an anonymous source.

Lyrics:
A compost heap
A kitchen mop
An old fur coat with a bird on top
A moving nest of unpleasantness
Good grief...

What-a-Mess!

Egg shells, porridge ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Is this Prince Amir of Kinjan
And dosed in ketchup
You'll never guess
Oh no!

What-a-Mess!

Though he's not a pretty sight
He really tries to do things right
With a mother who's tall and slim
I wonder how she ever thought of him

A short fat stuffy Afghan hound
A more foul creature you've never found
A tangled bundle of greasy-ness
Good grief...

What-a-Mess!
What-a-Mess!
What-a-Mess!

(howls)

What-a-Mess!

  • @MiFFiL I seen the original version but in Latin American Spanish Audio Dub on XEIPN channrl 11 on a Big Dish Sattelite system back in the 1990's and it was way better than the DiC piece of fakata crapolla that aired on ABC TV (USA) Back in 1996..

  • Save Kids TV is a load of rubbish all they do is make new CGI on it's own rubbish which nobody in their right mind would watch.

Drawn cartoons with CGI colouring brought to us in 1989 - 1999 were awesome though plus the ones that were drawings alone before then were awesome too.

If all cartoons have to have CGI in them I much like old style CGI better that used proper artwork as they were drawn then CGI coloured back then which I guess was better than painted dry looking colours pre 1989.

  • I feel this version is a lot less exciting than the American one, but it's the one I grew up with so I appreciate them both.

  • This is interesting!! I think I only saw one episode of this series in the U.S. but I grew up on the American version.

  • pretty sure I listened to this at least 30 times today :D

  • que genial esto lo pasaban en Perú en canal 7 ps

    asuuuuuu

  • Wow so different from the North American version.

  • @slapavisionarchival
