A new study says some people won't benefit from the future I-69 project. Oakland city was left off the radar when original predictions were made. Now that a new study is out, city officials aren't happy.
A new study out projects that I-69 will hurt Oakland City, rather than help it. The study conducted by USI professors and students says that Oakland City will become a quote "bedroom city" to Evansville. But chief of police, Alec Hensley refuses to see it that way. Instead of accepting the study's findings, Hensley, the fire chief and the mayor are discussing what they can do to make the city more appealing to potential business. Business owner Wayne Ewin sees it that way too. I-69 will run about a mile west of the city, which Ewin can only see helping. Officer Hensley understands the many opposed to the billion dollar highway project, but says it helped to hear Governor Daniels go more in depth about it at Wood Memorial High School where Daniels explained that I-69's purpose isn't just to connect Evasnvile to Indy, but to help our state do better business nationally.
They hope to find out more details this week, which will help them begin to improve Oakland City.
