Ben Folds was in Chicago for three sold-out shows at the Vic, and he made some time to stop by The A.V. Club and cover Elliott Smith's "Say Yes" for us. Folds has a history with Smith: They did a brief tour together, both opening for Beck, and Folds told us that he'd sheepishly knock on Smith's door before the show to request "Alameda." Folds paid tribute to Smith on 2005's Songs For Silverman, with a song called "Late," and here he does so again, playing a piano-fied version of one of Smith's greatest songs, "Say Yes."
i really hate this. it makes me mad.

This performance proves how well he understands Elliott's music. I'm thoroughly impressed.

@1Lozzix1 i would recommend an older album. Rockin the Suburbs is a GREAT album. Carrying Cathy, Losing Lisa, Fired, and The Luckiest are all some of my favorites on the album. Also Supersunnyspeedgraphic is great. All in all, Ben Folds is my favorite.

@1Lozzix1 I don't think he has a bad album...later work is more chilled out. Older work with BFF is more upbeat and pop-piano.

@1Lozzix1 Whatever and Ever Amen is a good one. The real Way to Normal is really good(he released two versions and one was a fake or something). And The Unauthorized Biography is pretty decent.

wow, this is a pretty good cover. I'd like to check out some of his original work, recommend an album?

Love it! Your expression is sickly awesome.
Could you do me a favour and check out my Adele/Rolling in the deep cover on my page? Or any of the others that catch your eye? All shot in HD with special effects.
We can box for box if we have a mutual respect :) but either way, love what you've done here!

@ericelawrence Yeah, not true. Have you even researched Ben Folds? You clearly know nothing about him. Sorry you feel that way about a genuine guy and amazing artist. Being confident of yourself and full of yourself are two different things. He is the first, not the second.
