SOAS is a world acclaimed centre of multicultural learning and academic excellence. We intend to keep it that way. The likely results of the cuts will be course streamlining and closures, job loses and an increase in the amount students have to pay for their education.

Education should be for all walks of life, not just for profit.

This is utter bollocks.. If you can't even represent the government plans as they really are and instead have to lie, blatantly, then your case must be pretty poor. The fact that you have to use a straw man like this suggests your opposition to the plans are little more than partisan bigotry. If you want to learn Punjabi, go to Punjab; everything's cheap there. Actually it's not difficult to teach yourself a language. I love SOAS, and as an Alumni I'll probably donate, but if I choose to indulge in a 3 year study of ANYTHING, why should I DEMAND that other people subsidize me.

Can't afford it? Take a few years out to save; do the course year on, year off, saving in between. You can find the money! If you just want to indulge your interests for 3 years, pay for it yourself.
