UC Berkeley professor and Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist George Smoot recruited the Cal band for a musical re-enactment of the "Big Bang," the theory of how the universe was created. Smoot received the Nobel Prize for his research confirming the "Big Bang." Watch as the Cal Band forms up, moments before transforming into an expanding universe with the help of Professor Smoot. • sn1pe352: He's what you might call a "basement theorist".

  • How funny. Wish there was an overhead shot. Really cute.

  • cool

  • very funny ^^

i wish i could ask Prof Smoot a few questions.

What was before the big-bang? Nothing?

When matter was totally concentrated, why it did not implode? Why it did not create a black hole?

And I learned, that energy stays constant in a closed system. The universe is a closed system I think. So It arises no new energy. Where does the energy at the beginning of the big bang came from? Does it work against gravity?

    soory for my english.

    Thanks
