Very nice looking enclosure, mate. Just gave me the idea where to put my drivers and controller. I have one question... in my local electronics store there are only switching power supplies. Is it for better or for worse compared to the classic way (transformer/rectifier/regulat
or).. Many cheers! -
what software are you running ?
-
@astromax80 No! You got it wrong. The current of the motors at top speed is minimal. Because the coils of the motor behave as reversed voltage sources and (of course) coils, when you turn the direction of the voltage fast (as in high speeds) the current delays to build up, so the total DC current drain from source is minimal. As for the voltage, when the motors decelerate under high inertial load they return current to the source resulting in overloading the power supply (adding several volts).

@pirvuti Vref is a high impedance input, you shouldn't have a voltage drop there. Maybe there is a problem with your circuit that produces it? It is a resistor voltage divider or something?

very nice job! I did one 3 axis controller myself with L297/L298 with 3 identical modules but only one work fine. With the others I try all I know but, i`ve measure all but I cannot understand where is the problem. On L297 Vref (pin 15) i have 0.4V but when I put voltage for motors on L298 this drop to almost 0 - why?

do you have a DIY faq for this?
Very nice but what's the need for a Torroidal transformer? Seems like an expensive way to get your power supply.

@atkinsonr Isn't an expensive way because any motor need a 50 V 4 A supply, so i need 50 V 16 A that means that i need a 800 VA transformer. Toroidal transformers are the only choice in terms of space and price. For this toroidal, for example, i have pay only 50 euros on e-bay. All the electronics is made with the best ratio quality/price. My budget is very limited. Thankyou for watching and comment.

@astromax80 Ahh cool. Thanks for replying. Would be good to see your X,Y,Z table too

@atkinsonr i hope to finish the mechanics at the end of this year. I need another parts that are very expensive so for now a little bit of patient... Now i am making a nice video with my motors that plays super mario bros theme and tetris theme :) Coming soon :)Bye!

@astromax80 Dude, your motors may be rated at 4A and the power supply at 50V (can L298 handle it (46 max)) but they will drain 4A at 2.5V (or something) on standby, which means a power of 10W. The real power drain will be during acceleration, but even then much lower since you never have full voltage and full DC current on the motors (during movement the current is AC in coils and recycling from coil to coil). Even so acceleration time is short so a large capacitor should do the job.

@ntomata0002 Hi! the recomend voltage supply for l298 is 46 V but on data sheet you can see 50V max. If you do not use a high power supply you can never reach high speed rotation becouse when the motors run you must to equalize the current inducted by the motor coils and the voltage on the coil resistence. So a big capacitor can help you on accelerations but not in fast rotation.
