Skateboarding, surfing, and skiing. These were the original passions of Makboard inventor Bob Candler. Snowboarding was introduced to the mix in 1976 when Candler made the move to Truckee, California and started riding the mountains around Lake Tahoe.

From the very beginning snowboarding has been described as "like surfing the snow", but Bob thought the analogy never truly fit. Something was missing. A feeling. A stoke. That sensation of carving a wave.

Then in 1993, after one more ride down the mountain on a stiff board, Bob was inspired--he grabbed a pen and started drawing a new snowboard, one where you could feel and experience the mountain beneath you. He asked his cousin Bob Ryan who was an avid snowboarder to become his test pilot.

The first prototypes didn't have the feel Bob was looking for, but after thousands of hours of trials and tweaks to his design, it finally emerged. A snowboard so unique that offered a ride and performance different than any other snowboard on the market today. The Bobs have been riding the resorts around Truckee for the past decade, testing and perfecting the art of Makboarding.

Thus, the Makboard was born.
