The only thing that I don't like in new Windows Live Messenger 2011 Beta is that you can't edit your username directly from the program. You have to go online to Windows Live sites to change it. It even doesn't allow you to have only a nickname, it shows your full name and last name. BUT! I found a way how to leave the last name TextBox on Windows Live empty without getting errors or any weird characters.

  • You can type 'Override' instead of 'Narrow' and use those 2 characters. They allow you to add new contacts without showing your name. Thumbs up if you wanna halp peoples.

  • 1. Start - Run (or windows+R) - Enter charmap

(or open from Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools)

    2. Search for left right mark and copy

    3. Paste into last name and save.

  • I love how it says "don't worry, you get to choose who sees it" Even though there is NO such setting on the entire windows live website... Nowhere can you choose who sees your last name, lol.

  • can you remove your whole name so ur username shows?

  • god dammit, why show all the failed attempts before you go to the solution??????

  • people still use msn, lol

  • good idea, thank you :)

  • I did this and it got rid my last name on the website but not in the messenger.

  • @Siipiniekka I got the same message. I tried again like 10 minutes later and it worked. I guess that's just MSN being stupid.

  • wow your desktop is really nic!

  • rofl, I tried the suggested character and MSN went "There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later." Not working anymore?

  • @tDeathwingr Which one did you use? I am having some trouble with this as well! :[
