@romusthepoet I love this song, my children used to know it by heart. Her voice is unique and beautiful. It also tells a story about what has happened to so many Brown, Black,and Asian cultures around the world. " Come sit beside me and hear a story of long ago when the people lived free."

Like many of you, I heard this song years ago on reading Rainbow and never forgot it. Tonight I am so happy that I found it, and I am ashamed that I didn't recognize Phoebe's Snow's voice back then. It would have made my search easier. Beautiful, unforgettable song.

@youngkingpin88 - I'm with your mom. I'd only heard it once, years ago when my daughter was little and watching Reading Rainbow. I never forgot it and searched for it for years. I was also a big Phoebe Snow fan and got to see one of her last concerts. She is truly missed.
