ABSTRACT
If you have used Knoppix long enough, you have probably eventually decided you would like to tweak it to add a setting or package. Most people resort to the full remastering process--uncompressing and changing the loopback file system--and are faced with a complicated, time-consuming process. In this talk Kyle Rankin will discuss a number of different methods you can use to change Knoppix's default behavior while bypassing the compressed loopback file system.
Speaker: Kyle Rankin Kyle Rankin is a senior system administrator for Quinstreet, Inc., the current president of the North Bay Linux Users' Group, the author of Knoppix Hacks, Knoppix Pocket Reference, Linux Multimedia Hacks, and Ubuntu Hacks and has contributed to a number of other O'Reilly books. Kyle is also a columnist for Linux Journal and has had articles featured in PC Magazine, TechTarget, and other publications.

Very good stuff. I will be trying a few of these ideas out. Knoppix is a great choice as far as live cd's because it seems to be alot lighter then ubuntu. Runs smoother on older machines with older hardware. Thanks for the very helpful presentation.
I think it would be more useful to cover customizing the Ubuntu CD since it provides a better alternative to businesses that want to use a product with corporate liability.
I'm just repeating something I read, but corporate liability is pretty much a myth. You won't get it with Knoppix, you won't get it with Ubuntu, and you won't get it with Microsoft, either.
And the Ubuntu CDs are pretty crappy as live CDs. I know because I just spent a week remastering every Ubuntu CD, and they were all fairly sluggish. They're really cool as demonstrator-installers, but they're not the powerful versitle tool that knoppix is.
I disagree with your comments on Ubuntu. Google for REMASTERSYS and use that with Ubuntu. With REMASTERSYS you can make great Live CD/DVDs or distro CD/DVDs based off what YOU install, give it a try, unless I'm responding to a troll.
