A bunch of 'rag tag' farmers? The French, Spanish, Dutch and around 6 groups of natives fought against the British Crown and it's loyalist allies. The French involvement proved pivotal and most historians regard their involvement as very important in the colonies eventual victory, although it damaged France financially. Britain was also fighting these countries in Europe too. Another fact......there were nearly as many colonials fighting for the British as there were against them!
