I would agree that "but don't ya know" is an ad lib (perhaps not a successful one - I've never been a fan of performers talking during a song). The "John Denver" riff (turquoise770 comment) immediately following this ad lib is a real high point in this version. (Unfortunately, the ending is not so great.)

This song will never get old. I could listen to it over and over. So haunting..takes me back to years ago when I was in love with a lineman. So sad that Glen has Alzheimers but his spirit is good and he can still sing like bird. Love you Glen. You've given me many hours of listening pleasure and for that I will always be grateful to you. ~Debbie~
