I love Anderson's work; he's certainly among the greats. But his last couple of movies were just fussier than Rushmore and Tenenbaums. I think part of it is because it's just difficult to associate and/or sympathize with his characters, which stems from that tradition he's coming from; taking dialogue queues from Mike Nichols and Hal Ashby has really made the movies stagnant. Again, his work is certainly beautiful and intriguing, but the writing is just lacking.

if you watch rushmore, you can tell he was at one point going to be making the life aquatic.
