However, it doesn't Yanni's not good. He's just shifted focus, and the direction that he's in now doesn't please everyone.
It's just obvious to musicians who are working constantly and see the show that he is actually using playback (from a laptop) for these more recent tours. The energy from the once powerful band has now been replaced by singers and effects, and while the show is still fun and interesting, it's not the same anymore. But, change is the only constant!

Tribute sounded like it did because of a lot of editing and mixing. It was at that point that I believe Yanni's team began using synthesizers in the studio (after the concerts were recorded) as well as effects such as reverb to double with the orchestra to make it sound even bigger. That's why the Forbidden City version of "Deliverance" and the rest of the concert, which was recorded and broadcast as it was performed, sounded so dry. There was no "in-studio" post-production and editing.
