@musicalcoholicdrunk haha funny you should actually mention it, but he really does despise and loath his miserable self! he's tearing his heart to pieces out of regret of the past and the torment of present life he's going through- his escape is through alcohol really, so when he hears (as quoted from the film) that "click" inside his mind, he mentally feels freer than he was before w/the weight of the world on his shoulders. c;

@123msanchez why do you find him annoying? If the tension between their relationship was not existent or present , the film would have no evolving story. He is playing a complex character- it's not Paul who's "annoying" you- it's the decisions in the film and the actions and character complications etc. I get what you mean tho- I JUST WANT HIM TO SUCCUMB TO HIS AND MAGGIE'S LOVE!! XD But the rollercoaster in getting to that destination is what makes the conflicting passions worthwhile!
