The Long and Winding Road by Paul McCartney. The Pin-Barrel Harp is now close to completion and is shown being put through some trial performances by Henry Dagg and Chris Wood. The Pin-barrel Harp is a sound-sculpture designed as a public-access acoustic composing machine in honour of Cecil Sharp, it has been commissioned by the English Folk Dance & Song Society and funded by the Big Lottery fund. Vocals: Chris Wood; arranging/programming: Henry Dagg, who has to wind the machine manually until the motor is fitted.

  • Am I the only one who'd like to hear this instrument without a singer?

Don't get me wrong, Mr. Wood sounds like a very solid singer in his own right. But I just don't see how this very unusual "musical sculpture" makes sense as accompaniment for a vocalist, especially one with clearly such a dominant voice. I want to hear the instrument on it own!

  • Wow, it's like a giant music box!

  • pretty cool but I would like to hear without the singer...

  • The 2 of the other songs posted on youtube arranged for this pin barrel harp were written and sung by Chris wood (Mad John and Caesar) so its fitting he sings to them. And the same applies to the rest of the arrangements - the are all songs. Maybe Mr. Dagg may feel like doing some Mahler symphonies, but I think the barrel is limited to 16 bars, so in that way its ideal to binary-form (ABAB) structured music, which most pop songs incidentally are. He could do minimalism + add a pin each rotation.

  • GENIUS!!!
