The reason why Centaur Man's stage is a water stage may be a reference to when Herkules faught the centaur in Disney's Herkules.

Yamato is one of those words in Japanese with mutliple meanings, such as "gami" meaning either "paper" or "soul/spirit". In this case, Yamato means both Japan and Spear. To further my point: in Megaman Battle Network 3, the incarnation of Yamatoman was renamed Japanman as a direct translation of his non-suffixed name.

Yamatoman is based on Japan but Yamato is actually Japanese for spear.
