A quick video to demonstrate userland flashing of OpeniBoot, the open source implementation of iBoot.

This is thanks to the great work of the guys over at the iDroid Project - http://www.idroidproject.org/ - in particular, Neonkoala for Bootlace, Bluerise for the necessary kernel patches, and CPICH for helping Bluerise with information.

For help or if you want to contribute, you can talk to the devs on #iphonelinux on irc.osx86.hu, or on Twitter at http://twitter.com/iDroidProject

  • I got a question... Dose it give u everything... Like android market updater to update software ( or would that fuck it up) plez get back to me

  • @slicey80 Due to licensing issues, Market isn't available. You can manually install apks though

  • does it work with iphone 3Gs?

  • @uzbekguy1 Not at the moment. Porting is in progress though. It'll still be a while before there's anything usable.

  • I need help when i put the source: Repo.neonkoala.co.uk.... Nothing comes up

  • @Stittle1 That repo is no longer in use. I believe Bootlace is on the BigBoss repo now, so it should be in Cydia by default

  • Is this possible on an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1?

  • @AndaleTheGreat I didn't edit out the pauses as the point was to demonstrate that this was all happening on the device itself. Editing out the pauses would've meant that other stuff could've been happening in between, like manually installing OpeniBoot

Keep in mind, this video was created before the public release of OpeniBoot flashing in Bootlace, so it was important to show that it did indeed work
