I always dreamed of creating a 12V layout nicer than those that could be seen on the lego train catalogs. Here it is.
This layout doesn't use dead-ends or inter-track crossings to increase the overall complexity. It only relies on building fundamentals to achieve its complexity (except for the "garage", but which is occupied by static trains).

The whole layout has been in boxes for quite some time now...

You can see the IC lok somewhere in the middle of the video where it's swapped with the yellow lok.

There's not much to explain... all you have to do is cut the electrical connection between tracks, usually in-between two switches.

Thanks for the information. Would you be interested on maybe shoot a tutorial video on how to properly set up electrically independent tracks? I guess other people on here would be interested in that as well.

All 3 trains run on electrically independant tracks. The tracks are linked by switches, but I use various tricks, either defective switches that don't transmit current anymore, or physically chopping the conductor rail near the switch.

Thank you for the reply. Whilst you are parking the yellow locomotive at around 4:35, there is another train moving in the background, all the time in the same direction, but the yellow locomotive first goes forward, then backwards. How does the track need to be designed electrically for this to work out?

Back when my V12 layout was in place, I often ran all trains on the longest possible loop of my track, one after the other, with breaks in between so they wouldn't get too close at crossings.

Sure, it's theoretically possible to run a single train successively through all circuits, though I've never tried it.

At which time are two trains running opposite directions on the same circuit ? I don't recall that... The entire layout is made exclusively from original lego parts.

It's a great layout with 3 separate circles which are linked together. How does it look like when a train runs through all 3 circles, one after the other? Is that possible, too, without switching directions. I'd like to congratulate you on your circuit design.

How is it possible to have one train run forwards and another run backwards while using only one transformator? Is this possible by using only original parts or have you used some custom made electrical trickery for this?
