Networking: How to Change or Spoof MAC Address in Windows XP, Vista, by Britec

MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a quasi-unique identifier consists of a six byte number that attached to most network adapter card or network interface card (NIC). As such, all network cards, whether its of Ethernet NIC, Gigabit Ethernet NIC or wireless 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi or HiperLAN adapter, should have different MAC addresses, which also known as Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA) or adapter address.

In operating system, MAC address is often represented in 12-digit hexadecimal number. For example, 00-16-E6-4D-5E-0A.

  • what is the number you wrote in value as in why is it that specific number can it be randome?

  • the number i wrote was my new mac address I mad

  • so...when i open properties on my WIRELESS monitor from the network connections there isn't an option to click on network address although there is a local administration mac network address, is this the same thing just for wireless users?

  • you can do the same thing in your router

  • so does the mac address you make matter as long as its just as long as the last one?

  • all you need to do is change 1 or 2 numbers really and that will force a change to your mac address

  • first of all a MAC Address is six sections in hexadecimal format I'm quite sure it isn't a six byte number and second you can't change your MAC Address you can only spoof a fake one and that can only happen on your own LAN

  • does this work for game systems like PS3

  • I used SWAC 2.0. I'm running 32-bit Vista. Program did its job and it showed it was spoofed but the orginal MAC address still showed up in the "Active MAC Address" column of SWAC. SWAC "Help" directs the use of "02" for the starting numbers if the spoof doesn't take. Tried the "02" and still no change. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 USB wireless N device. Do some adapters have a way to keep it from spoofing the MAC address? Thanks for great videos and your help.

  • Only works on local area connection , for wireless is workless

  • PUNK this shit doesn't work my device is windows 7 , but if i change my wireless card mac address i won't be able to connect to the internet , there's no way to change it

  • Dumb ass , anybody knows how to change mac address on local area connection , what about wireless on windows 7

  • Thanks for the Tut. Britec. One quick question. If I used Tmac to change my mac address. Do I have to turn on Tmac to run every time the pc is started? Or

The info is kept in the registry even when in reboots?

  • Well this work on the playstation 3?

I am guessing that if I change the Mac address from my computer, well my ps3 have the same MAC address as my computer is reading?
