More than twenty five years
My life's been right here
And I've seen some changes, it's true
We're cutting arts, schools, and health
To protect those with wealth
I live in a red state, and that's why I'm so blue

There's no use pretending
The demographics are trending
But I've lived here a long time and my family's here, too
For the record, there's no trusting
Their faith-based programs and union busting

It's never easy to be here with a sane point of view
Have to listen to politicians who just cant tell the truth
My state once fought for abolition
Now we've got no Arts Commission

The cuts in spending today
Will chase employment away
If you're working class like my family, you're screwed
But even Reagan would be hating
The way the far right is legislating
