This was in relation to the Melbourne Storm's salary cap breaches and the fact that Rebecca Wilson, a prominent Rugby League writer for News Ltd (read: Murdoch) publications, is the partner of the head of News Ltd, John Hartigan. This in the context of News owning half of the National Rugby League, all of the Melbourne Storm and being the major media organisation reporting on Rugby League.

Hosted by Gerard Whateley (ABC sport: radio and TV) as Barrie Cassidy was in London for an Insiders special, the panel included

Brad Walter, senior rugby league writer for the Sydney Morning Herald (Fairfax publication)
Caroline Wilson, senior AFL writer for The Age (Fairfax)
Gideon Haigh, freelance writer, published by both Fairfax and News
Rebecca Wilson, rugby league opinion and gossip writer (News Ltd)

Personally i think it would've been good to include Brad Walter in this discussion more, if Roy Masters had been on the show i'm sure he would've placed himself in the conversation much more than Brad did.

I also think, much like in politics, there probably could and should be much greater disclosure of relationships among journalists and people they should be covering and the broader culture among people with influence in regards to these issues.

I suspect that this moron thought that by being "open" and "honest" about his relationships with hartigan and gallop meant he negates his conflict of interest and therefore presents a legitimate and neutral piece. Whereas all he did was alert unaware readers that he is biased, therefore his opinions are irrelevant.
