  • Oh Shut up.

  • The problem with the falling step in fencing is that it is only useful for the lunge. It lends itself to poor retreats and thus limits overall mobility.

As far as the back hand goes, it is actually rather uncommon to see at most levels competiton now. It is kept behind the body during an action so as to not cover valid target in foil. The old reasoning behind it was to keep it out of the way and to flatten out behind oneself during the lunge to maintain balance and help the recovery.

  • I think your faint may have just failed lady... I hear contact at 1:52

  • that's an odd ballestra

  • compound attack she means?

  • Good video, thank you for sharing your passion !

  • advanced?

    beginner you mean

  • "advanced" ? xD

    they 're noob

  • both noobs - and this is in no way an advanced lesson.

Cool that you put it online anyway

  • xemperfi, watch how balestra (jump lunge) is being executed by fencers like Joppich, Baldini, or Cassara, and see if their opponents can EASILY see their intentions and EASILY counter attack them :)

  • To be honest, people don't make a habit of balaestring around in standard fencing. A quick step would just as well suffice to a) feint the start of a lunge; b) gain distance; c) start a long lunge. It's not a bad move but I wouldn't call it a basic.
