We went on holiday to Cannes and visited Marineland in Antibes. It was a good opportunity to try out a new camera (left my reliable Fuji camera at home. d'oh!) and, when I got home, to test the new version of iMovie.

  • It is. It was quite expensive (€150 for four of us) but the kids had a great time.

All I'd say is: get there early and do the shark tunnle first because later in the day it's a bit mad and the French visitors don't appear to have the same queueing ettiquette as the English...

  • I was there 2011and 2010 it was so nice

  • @obskur23 How do you know they are not happy? As said - only one of the whales was caught from the wild.in 1982 - nearly 30 years ago. And sorry to delude you but we have and continue to learn a great deal from the small number of whales in captive care. But you are entitled to opinion but it would be nice you would stop the name calling and abuse.

  • @IAmADalek Yes, I know. It was already a year ago that I posted that comment, I know better than that.

  • IamAdick No need for me to wake-up, but time for you to... No need to study anything regarding the care of animals kept in captivity, it is just not a place for them, only to amuse stupid peoples like you ;) How do you know how happy they are???? Did you spoke with them???? Now it is good to know they can't be released or they will die!!!! Don't capture them you ignorant!!! Hope you don't have kids or never will have, you are a shame for our earth...

  • @obskur23 Maybe you wake up and study some basic animal care? You might actually get to understand ow well cared for these animals are and how content they are. This is not a place of abuse unlike many Asian facilities that refuse to accept that breeding is better than capture.

  • @fredjelucas Freya is a captured Orca. Valentin, Inouk and Wikie were born at Marineland.

  • @cits96 Captured Orca's can't be released. They would actually die.

  • @cits96 Orca's shouldn't ever have been captured, but they cannot be there. MLF is the largest habitat for Orca's and one of the best. SW has amazing care for their animals but local authorities do actually prevent expansion on the basis of "I don't agree with it - the tanks are too small" so let SW expand? Sounds a bit obvious to me. No captive animal right now can ever be released. They are dependant on us. The only way to really rehab an animal takes anout 3 generations.

  • How do you stop male and female Orca's breeding if they're in the same pool? Unless you seperate all males and females but then you have serious welfare issues. They didn't leave Tilikum in the medical pool, if you look at the video, the gate was open and he had the chance to come out, he didn't. It's well known that Tilikum appears to like smaller spaces (Thanks to the crap care at Sealand). The gene pool is small, but hey, look at Pedigree Dogs and Cats to see a small gene pool.

  • @cits96 We don't actually know how old Wild whales start getting pregnant. It could be at 8 or 9 years old, BUT we don't know. It's well known however that they tend to have one or two unsuccessful calves before learing how to care for them well enough to become breeding age themselves. MLF is one of the best facilities in the world. They do a lot for rehabilitating strandad marine animals, researching how to conserve corals and reef species... lots of things.
