Famous Russian song about war written in 1943. Performed by Jewish collective: Sidor Belarsky (basso) with Misha Borr and his Orchestra. Taken from my collection of 78 RPM disks.

I have never seen this interpretation published online before.

Visit my site http://www.78-giri.net/en for more Italian songs from gramophone disks.

English translation (taken from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8Humq7YfFQ):

Only the wind is wailing through the telephone wires, stars are faintly flickering...
In the dark night, my love, I know you are not sleeping,
And, near a child's crib, you secretly wipe away a tear.

How I love the depths of your gentle eyes,
How I long to press my lips to them!
This dark night separates us, my love,
And the dark, troubled steppe has come to lie between us.

I have faith in you, in you, my sweetheart.
That faith has shielded me from bullets in this dark night...
I am glad, I am calm in deadly battle:
I know you will meet me with love, no matter what happens.

Death is not terrible, we've met with it more than once in the steppe...
And here it looms over me once again,
You await my return, sitting sleepless near a cradle,
And so I know that nothing will happen to me!

  • Hi,

The other side is song «Tachyanka» by Listov-Ruderman.

  • What do you mean? Do you think that my turntable speed is wrong?

  • Это фокстрот?

  • Там не написано. Но явно не фокстрот, он более быстрый.

  • Thank you!

  • Hi, I was wondering what is on the other side of this record. My mother used to listen to this with her Father when she was about 9 and she said she thinks the other side was the instrumental or the blue handkerchief by Klavdia Shulzhenko. Her father passed when she was 14 and it took me hours to find this song for her and I would like to possibly find the record for her. Where did you buy this record also? Thanks so much! -Nicole

  • Can't believe Italians and Russians were at war back then. Such was the common love for beautiful music. Thank you for posting it.
