A decade or more after the terrible Siege by Serb forces, Sarajevo is a fully safe, suitably humbling and fascinating place to visit. At the crossroads of east and west, this city experienced history-making events at each end of the last century. As a Habsburg outpost, Sarajevo saw the 1914 assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the shot that started World War I. As capital of Bosnia, Sarajevo was the scene of appalling hardship and massacres during the Serbian siege of 1992-96. Its lifting came with the end to the regional conflict and the ethnic division of both Bosnia and Yugoslavia.
It has a very old, mixed culture and is a must see for every age, from young to old.
Great video. Only one exception. In your description it says "by Serb forces". It wasn't "Serb forces", it was an act of Serbian extremists. That's a MAJOR difference. In fact, some Serbs were defending the city, side by side with ethnic Bosniaks, during the war!
