  • I enjoyed your review. I do have to say, though, that as someone with a family member that suffers from BP1, I think this book is a tremendous help to assist in understanding what goes on in the mind of loved ones. Many times, family and friends have a hard time understanding the behaviors and why the person cannot stop or snap out of it. KRJ does an excellent job of expressing her journey and I appreciate her perspective more than just informational literature.

  • @DMCJ248 What do you think of An Unquiet Mind compared to Electroboy, Madness, and Manic or other bipolar memoirs?

  • I loved the book. Having BP 1, I could relate. I enjoyed her writing style. I also am in my head. Thanks for the review.

  • Your welcome. :-)

  • Hey Meghan, I liked your review. I enjoyed the way the book was written. However, I found the book had an over bad effect on me. Maybe because I'm type 2 , maybe I can't understand it all. I didn't like how she openly called Bipolar madness. And I found her jokes (the list she does in the book of side effects) about lithium unhelpful. It made me even less likely to want to take it not more. Anyway, you take care.

    Rebecca :)

  • I understand what you mean. It was only after I had my 1st serious psychotic symptom that I became sensitive to certain terms, esp. 'crazy'. Over time I eased up, it is such a part of our language & most people don't mean any harm. But I 'm still a little unsure about it. I DO NOT like the term 'mentally ill' or 'mental illness', but still catch myself saying it now & again & hating it. I prefer 'psychiatric illness'. And yes, you'd have to be BP1 to get the most benefit from this book.

  • Hi Meghan,

I have heard about this book. I am also a fairly cerebral person. It seems like the anxiety really takes hold when I am in my head too much...or maybe it's the opposite way around *LOL* Anyway, I am learning more about how to be and stay in the moment. I love possibilities, though, so too much of that would be boring.

    Good review :)
