Music Property of Yisrael Shiyr and Photo Property of Ivory Smith Photography, Poem Entitled "Priorities" Property of Yisrael Shiyr.
A Poem Written by Yisrael Shiyr entitled Priorities: This entire piece is about the poor man Ivory's photo. Priorities
In the eyes of the world, this man's unimportant. In the eyes of the world, he's just a man. He can be the cure for your cancer; he could be the cure for your disease. We ignore him and tell him to go away. With our standards we chase him away, with our standards we put him to flight and with our standards we chase away what could have made things in this world right. We say that it is his fault and he should have made better choices, maybe so, but, what if the choice that you make would be the option presented before him that would give him that opportunity for a better choice? But, we say, it isn't our problem, that he isn't our concern. His problems are our problems, you see, God has made us to be solutions, not a part of the weight. And a part of the weight is ignoring when someone else needs help when it's obvious and almost too late. We are called to intercede upon his behalf and, oh, not just prayerfully, but through extending a hand and a kind word, looking at him in his eyes and telling him, it will be OK. You see, his dilemma you have become, because you hold the key.
