@amuagorum darker? Music theory-wise, Opeth didn't start to go really heavy/dark with the dissonant chords and scales until My Arms Your Hearse. I also think Morningrise and Orchid are great, but they stay within the major scale and Akerfeldt often makes fun of both albums during his live peformances these days, referring to them as the days when Opeth played "minstrel metal." Opeth is a band that breaks new ground with every album. No album(s) represent "real" Opeth

I think Morningrise was a hell of a step up compared to Orchid, thats were they found a definitive style and kept that style and spirit until watershed in my opinion.

@Stupidsquire Yeah i kinda miss those too, but i doubt you will see dual harmonies any more. Mikael has said that he has swayed Opeth away from it since so many bands at the time were doing dual harmonies. I miss the old Opeth..its a shame Mikael thinks the old songs are such crap.
