A Tribute to Odetta

The great Odetta passed away Tuesday, December 2nd. As we mourn her passing, those of us affiliated with the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function also celebrate her life, and wish to note how grateful we are that we were able to host one of Odetta's last public performances, at the Music Has Power Awards in New York City on September 8th.

The Music Has Power Awards honors men and women who through their interpretation of, and/or support of music and music therapy helps further the mission of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF). The IMNF is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing scientific inquiry on music and the brain and to developing clinical treatments to benefit people of all ages suffering from neurological diseases, disorders and disabilities such as stroke, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, and traumatic brain and spinal injuries. The IMNF is a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services. For more information, call (718) 519-5840.

  • I say with age comes grace, peace, beauty & understanding. This just proves I'm right. So beautiful!

  • @observationman I do that too!

  • Just beautiful- Odetta RIP my queen

  • She was one of a great, great singer and interpreter...!

    She was my personal idol.

Now she is singing in the God arms!

  • beautiful, thanks for sharing

  • What I like about this is the lope in the vocals. She comes in purposefully late and then catches up before the phrase ends. Jerry Garcia used to do that too.

  • It's interesting to see the few variations youtube has of this song she performs . AS a performer each performance is different is suble ways . Audience response / venue / piano players style . . .

Thank you for postin ! dougie in austin .

  • thank you!
