Abandon lines always have a place in my heart...like what was the last train that used that line?, were there any steam locos that used it and when?....was it a busy line with trains passing every hour?....I like those pics of abandon rails....

@MiNameIsNash: Yeah, one in the front and one in the rear. I was happy to see them!

As usual, nice vids. Just curious, when the local went out on the main, did the brakeman walk up to the engines or did the train back up?

@grandpamoe1: Both the conductor and the brakeman (one of them was a woman, actually) walked up to train after she lined the switch to normal. The train didn't back up.

This kind of looks like the Durham Road overpass, but it has been many years. What type of trackage rights to BNSF gain in the UP-SP merger? It appears BNSF has trackage rights from Bieber to San Jose on the old WP.

@manthony1956: It is the Durham Rd. overpass. The western portion of the road (I-680 to I-880, or "Highway 17") has been renamed Auto Mall Parkway, but the same old Durham Rd.
I'll have to ask around regarding the trackage rights between Stockton and Niles Jct., as I've yet to see any BNSF trains on the old WP route through Altamont Pass, but BNSF has rights between Keddie Wye and Stockton on the UP, as well as between Richmond (Stege) and Warm Springs.
