I don't think it is because he doesn't know how to kiss. In Korean dramas that target younger audiences, they tend to have a lot of closed mouth kissing in order to preserve modesty. Thus, he was probably directed to do so.

it's so sad that Yung Jong Hwa doesn't know how to kiss! the scene could have done better if he knows how! but it's ok coz YJH is still cuteeeee!
