  • This is an incredible piece of history as it happened. I am from (and still living in) the Bay Area and saw this report when it originally aired. Thank you for this post.

  • Reporters VS Commentators. Amazing difference.

  • Its too bad the guys who killed Rep. Ryan didn't come to their senses and shot Jim Jones instead

  • @Medic83301 Thanks for the info; that is interesting. I meet Leo Ryan just a few weeks before his murder; he was a good man. So were the Mayor and Supervisor Milk. Sad days for the City.

  • @andreestes My dad had a cassette tape recording sent from a cop that he was friends with during their time with the SFPD of the police radio transmissions regarding the Moscone & Milk assassinations . He don't have it anymore , but I tell you it sounded like it was absolute bedlam in City Hall . My cousin was working as a clerk in the Assessor's Office when it happened and my dad was no longer with the SFPD . We had moved to Idaho two years before .

  • @tyrese3745 This aired on November 18, 1978 . KGO was are favorite station for news when we lived in the Bay Area . Van Amberg came to our school in 1971 to talk about news and how we as kids can benefit from listening to it .

  • Worse mass suicide until 9/11 came along. This was just insane to comprehend.

  • On the day that the weight deadens on your shoulders and you stumble, may the clay dance to balance you. And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window and the ghost of loss gets into you, may a flock of colors, indigo, red, green and azure blue come to awaken in you a meadow of delight. When the canvas frays in the currach of thought and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you, may there come across the waters a path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.

    cont…

  • May the nourishment of the earth be yours, may the clarity of light be yours, may the fluency of the ocean be yours, may the protection of the ancestors be yours, and so may a slow wind work these words of love around you, an invisible cloak to mind your life.

  • It was either November 24th or November 27th, 1978. Just my guess.
