  • oh so their color changes with age? mines brown. so brown that my gf named him hersheys. hope mine grows the white line on his back too, looks real sick. one more thing, are these guys night feeders? i've had this guy for about 3+ weeks and haven't seen him eat. i know their filter feeders but haven't really seen him at it. I've only seen him come out of hiding from the plants at night and as soon as i switch the lights on he's gone. any idea why? cheers.

  • @invincible360

Mine hid for a real long time until he finally got used to cruisin the tank. Feed him the red color enhancing flakes. Crumble some up very fine. Should help. These guys will not turn red if they're scared so give it a while.

  • @snotbog1 oh alright. whats the brand of flakes that you use to feed these guys? thanks for the help.

  • @invincible360

Tetramin is good. There are other good ones. Stay away from cheaper brands like Wardleys

  • This is what wikipedia says bamboo shrimp are suposed to look like, but I just can't find em like this no matter how I look. Congrats on finding such a fine looking species.

  • @SodyPopInSpace

Thanks. He was brown when I got him and later colored up nicely. He turns 3 years in the fall.

  • @BingX14 also, the jewel cichlids you're quite right, are very territorial and aggressive, and i removed him from the tank before he could have the chance to get big enough to cause problems. I completely changed my tank about 5 months ago to a Lake Malawi African cichlid tank stocked with some of the less aggressive species of Mbuna like yellow labs and aceis, and rustys along with some synodontis catfish.

  • @awytkidwit2lastnames not to dog on you but Firemouth cichlids are Semi-Aggressive and relatively peaceful central american cichlids. The only time you see bad aggression is when a pair is spawning. Many people sucessfully keep firemouth cichlids with tetras and barbs. By the way, silver dollar tetras can grow 6" with some species growing larger...the max size of a firemouth is 6 inches. Silver dollars hold their own just fine even with oscars.

  • @BingX14 not to dog on you or anything but i recomend keeping the same species of cichlids when it comes to this species cause there are many place they can come from and if you get anymore cichlids make sure you rearrange the the tank before adding them because cichlids are very territorial and should not be kept with common tropical fish but if this works out for you, good but im just giving you a heads up
